Biography of Aidan MacCarthy launched
The launch of Bob Jackson's biography of Aidan MacCarthy took place at MacCarthy's Bar on August 20, 2016.
The event was organised by the Beara Historical Society and Collins Press, Cork, the publishers of 'A Doctor's Sword: How an Irish doctor survived war, captivity and the atomic bomb'.
Bob Jackson is the producer of the film documentary, 'A Doctor's Sword'.
The launch was attended by Adrienne and Niki MacCarthy and many of their father's old friends and neighbours who told of how Aidan was first and foremost a Beara man.
Fr Sean O'Shea, retired, former parish priest and RAF chaplain, offered a toast to his old friend and comrade.
'A Doctor's Sword' is published in hardback by Collins Press at €19.99.
* In October 2016, Ireland's President Michael D Higgins received a copy of the book for his personal library. The book was given to the President by Ellen Hegarty, of Blackrock, Co Dublin, who was at the book launch.
